its a new year and i dont know where its going to take me. i dont know how it will change me or if it will change me at all.

i will be @ omation until april this year. so i maybe extended but we are close to finishing so if i am extended it wont be for long. that means after this summer i either need to return to florida for school or find another job and stay working... only time will tell

Hey

its been a very long time since i have updated my blog. sorry been very very busy.

somethings that have happened and/or are happening. i went back home for turkey-day, spent time with my family. i hadn't seen my old brother in years it was great to see him along with his wife and his kids. my niece and nephew are great!

went back to school briefly (24 hrs) for a softimage demo. i showed the students work that has been done on the barnyard. the response was concerning. i wasn't sure if i just covered so much and they all were content and happy or i bored the hell outta them. hung out with an important friend. and was then back on the plane that morning and had to be at work at 12pm. i wasn't actually that lagged either.

going snowboarding for the first time this weekend. bought the last of my gear lastnight and we are heading out tonight. its either going to be a lot of fun or a lot of pain

ok this is late but my three day weekend in oregon was great. we camped out, ate, drank, talked, played games and just relaxed. some random things that happend are...

-had to build a tent without instructions and with extra parts. i had to have greg, an engineer, help me.
-played with jentzen's kids a lot... they are great!
-tons of trampoline time, boy did i miss jumping on the trampoline
-potato gun shooting
-watermelon eating contest... my skinny ass lost!

just chilling at home doing some school work and cleaning house. this past weekend i went surfing with chris and brad again. here are some pictures...

i went to see "March Of The Penguins" today... it was pretty good. amazing what these animals go through just to procreate. freezing weather, 100 mph winds, no food for 4 months, walking 70 miles to breading grounds, then back for food, and then back again to give it to the baby chick.

yeah i am bummed... no one brings a camera or asks about one. so there are no pictures of me being an ass. well i wasn't an ass, it was a pretty normal night. went to a tapone resturant (the cook on the table infront of ya, and flip food into your mouth) then we went out to ole's, a local bar to socialize and play foozeball...

went to look at more VW GTIs... and i am going to sleep on this decesion to get this one. its a 6cyclinder but thats ok. they use almost the same amount on gas. and with the vr6 there is no turbo maintenance. it has 2 toned leather interior, which is going to get dirty quick. but i like it a lot...

siggraph 05 was good...

siggraph 05 for softimage was awesome! and was soo glad to be apart of what softimage is doing. omation had a showing at the softimage user group and on the show floor. i had my demo in the back booth doing training. i showed the barnyard trailer and got many laughs and a few applause.

i am trying to get a hold of some pictures from the show. but in the meantime

the three pictures will open a pop up and show you an slideshow. the cocktail party on the bottom left was killer! on top of the standard hotel. this place is the place! it is really happening. pool. water bed pod/chairs. regular cushioned chairs. regular chairs and tables. a small dance floor. open bar. and a projector that puts video up on the building across the street.

everyone was there. softimage users. developers. staff. non softimage users. potential softimage users. people from many countries. and all over the united states. i met soo many people and got a great feel for the industry. things are looking good.

did i mention this was a paid three days off?! uhh yeah! i got so much schwag i dont know what to do with. shirts. hardware. software. trinkets. posters (signed). dvds.

wow yesterday was great. it was all about transportation or the lack there of :)

i was calling around dealers trying to get a feel for whats out there. i am stuck on getting a vw gti 1.8t. so i called around let the dealers know i am looking and to get back to me if the land anything in my price range. well the nearest vw is approx 8 miles away. so jentzen says lets just go and test drive some cars. we go on a bus heading in the right direction, but got off too early, twice! so we ended up walking another 3 or so miles to get to the dealership.

when we got there we spotted her...

i was hooked, i had to test drive her!

they almost had me driving off that lot, but thanks to jentzen for talking some sense into about not making a decision so quickly, i didn't. thanks jentzen!

anyways 3hrs later we got outta there to try and meet up with our co-worker jon keto. this was his last day before his 2 week vacation. he was going to pick us up to go to dinner with a group of friends. but to our suprise california transportation stops after 6:30 on saturdays :( so we tried to walk as far back as we could before it was time for us to get picked up. keto is such a cool guy he picked us up at this place!

we had great day and an even better night. we went to a great sushi place. just chilled and talked with all my friends from the studio. afterwards some of us went to the movie theatre in the same strip mall. we were told that our trialer was playing at this theatre. so we bought tickets for charlie and the chocolate factory but planned to dip out and catch fantastic four. well we didn't see the trailer in front it. fantastic four was fun but nothing spectacular...

well maybe next post i will have a car, we will see

warning this may tip some peoples perspective of me, or may be offended by the following post. i am going to say "please dont continue if you find fowl language and general guy stuff offensive" but you will still read so... i am sorry in advance

took a trip down the big ass hill i live on. my new roommate jentzen came with. we got a bite to eat at zpizza (it rocks) and hung out in the plaza for a bit. we planned on taking a bus back up the hill because its a long hike, but neither of us knew the routes well. we just decided to hang at the bus stop and ask people or the driver about the routes. well while waiting a series of beautiful females graced our presence. well i am young and eager (jentzen is married) so i got ballzy and asked the different groups if we could get a ride up the hill... not once, not twice, but three times i was turned down. i know i know my momma wouldn't agree to me hitchhiking in kalifornya but come on whats the worst that coulda happend? hell some my age would hope for some bad stuff to happen to them while getting a ride from these females. anyways the third set was what tipped it for me, the first two didn't have me down much or hurt my ego. this third one though, grrrr

the two get out their car while we sit on the bench they walk by, and i ask "are you going to be long?". immediate response to me was "uh, yeah!". she already knew we were going to talk to her, and she was ready for us. this blonde bimbo though soo much of herself that she couldnt even look at me. those of you that know me, know i am not very threatening, hell she coulda took me on and won. anyways i was peeved. i was telling jentzen how much of a bitch she was. i told him this is why i am not into blondes that much (yes i am stereotyping, sue me) and that she is living up to every blonde bimbo from kali stereotype out there. but this isnt the kicker. under 5 mins and they are back out and walk right by again. i politely said "sorry if i came off wrong, but i was just going to ask for a ride".. immediate response "i wasnt going to give you a ride anyways". that did it. she went from bitch to that word that most females hate, the word that really shakes ground in most females pysche.... i am not daring enough to type that word and actually publish it, going to leave it up to you to fill the blank.

so as it stands this is the worst day for me in kalifornya. i have had bad days a work, i have messed up and done stupid things but none of that matters. my general consensus of kalifornya as of now sucks. all the people i know are super cool, but guess what. not even 20% of them are actually from kalifornya. so sorry beth but so far i am not impressed. actually it could be cause san clemente is a right wing haven of military families and/or elitist real estate scum bags that claim this is the best place to live because its 30 miles from the nearest faultline.

here do i really look that intimidating?

its been a bit, i have been busy here. finished up the trailer last week. should be out in front of willy wonka and the bad news bears. i hope everyone will enjoy it and finally get to see what i am apart of out here. speaking of which i got an extension till jan 06. my department chair at school back in florida (monty) was right. "dont plan on coming back" he said.

siggraph is just around the corner. omation will be doing stuff for softimage. i will be doing some show floor classes for softimage. omation will also be at the xsi user group meeting showing some of our work done in xsi, should be fun :)

i have been looking at some vehicles lately. i am set on getting a vw golf... i really dont know why but i dont want any other vehicle at this moment. i really need the wheels, but i am being picky. its a little inner struggle because i want to treat myself to a good car but a good price. i think its the freedom being out west and doing my own thing.

i have been playing battlefield 2 a lot lately, its addictive! you can fly choppers and jets. drive tanks, hummers, buggies, and boats. its really cool, especially online play :)

just finished up my animal drawing project.

and this was another assignment i did while out here in california for mr hunt

work is going good. its not running super smooth, but thats ok. that means i got work to do :) right now we are going through a buncha change which could be good. as long as i stay working it should be fine.

siggraph is coming up. i will be there 2 days outta the week. most likely tuesday and another day. just for the exhibition, job fair, and xsi user group. omation will be doing some presentations with softimage and i intend to help them out on the show floor and behind the curtains as best i can.

going to see batman begins tomorrow night, everyone has been telling me its good.. can't wait!

oh yeah i got my first piece of furniture.

i got it in black. i have no chair yet, because you couldn't get it online. funny thing was the store said the chair was an online only item. its ok. i have it setup tall so you can stand or use one of those tall artist chairs. like this

animation frenzy!

i went to see madagascar this past friday. it was good, not as story driven as your pixar films but still fun. there was a good amount of slapstick type comedy. the individual characters were funny in their own way just how they acted made it funny.the effects were great. plenty of hair on animals. water and fire that was done very well.

before the movie there was two previews for upcoming cg animated films. there was open season, which i hadn't heard of until that night, and chicken little. open season is being done by sony and is about forest animals fighting back! lol looks good. chicken little is getting a lot of slander from the cg communities because its a non-pixar related film. i think thats bull, lets just wait to see it. from what i have seen, it looks nice, animation looks great, the technology behind it isn't super scientific but is quite interesting. at siggraph last year the showed what they are doing with 'breaking' rigs and doing suuper duuper stretchs and deforms, similar to what you would find in a traditionally animated feature. also zach braff is the voice of chicken little and i like zach.

now the title of this blog is because there are a buncha cg films coming out.

of course those films all have release dates that are nice and separated. i am not afraid of saturation. this blogger touches on what a colleague and i were discussing. my colleague set me at ease though, because he said as long as the films are good and the viewers experience is good, they will return. regardless if its the 10th cg film of the year or not. saturation isn't bad for cg films. what we have to watch out for is bad cg films.

so i am saying great more and more CG features! too bad almost all of them listed above are being done at a maya house. aah well just means i gotta be a better artist before a better XSI technition

week 3...

well its technically friday so i will write like its end of week 3 :)

i am becoming settled in at the studio, although i haven't met the majority of the studio but i am getting there. i am more involved in the TD/XSI dept. i can actually do stuff without having to make sure i am doing it right by checking with the senior guys here. i have been solving a few problems daily and having to turn just as many off to other people. the other departments here challenge this department by coming up with new ways to break things. they aren't purposely doing it but it happens and thats what we do here. the animators are constantly pushing the rigs that come outta this dept making it so we have to adapt/upgrade the rig to meet their standard. i have learned a bunch from Aaron and Chris about rigging. stuff i wouldnt have come up with on my own.

i will be going to see star wars tomorrow with a buncha the crew, will post my review of that saturday.

been working on this.. more stylized version of my zombies inspired by n8vandyke. i love his inkwashed backgrounds and his inking. this character specifically got me going. just the shape he has, not the cap or the redneck in that guy ;)

i am becoming more influenced by this production, because i am working with cartoony characters and not realistic humans. i am still trying to develop the look..

week 2!

wow, its been 2 weeks! i have been working my rear off, not because i have to though. i just have been learning so much and doing so many different things i haven't been able to get enough. i still have no pictures to show :( why? because my camera i think is officially dead it hasnt turned on in 3 days. well i am in a better position to buy a camera now so i may do so.

my apartment is ok, its bare. lol thats what i would really like to take a picture of, all i have is my inflatable mattress and my laundry, oh yeah my roommates mattress and his laundry too. i feel like a drifter or just someone really poor cause i dont plan on furnishing the apartment anytime soon. i really only sleep and shower there and then i usually leave for work.

met up with a few BMXers today, we went to the skatepark down the street from where i work. it was a zoo with all these little kids riding skateboards and rollerblading. regardless it was fun to see other guys riding and getting back into riding. bikes arent technically allowed in the park but no one disagreed with us riding so that makes my opinion of the locals good.

over all i feel very comfortable out here, it actually isnt much different from where i used to stay in boca. quiten and clean. the people i think are just a nice if not nicer. the weather kicks ass out here. its cool air temp with sunny skies, feels great.

i will post what cameras i am looking at, maybe i can get some input from people...

first week...

Yeah I did it. Got through that first week and just eager to get the next one started...

On thursday we had a Cinco De Mayo party at the studio. I got to meet the rest of the departments and upper management. There was lots of food, drink, and games in the place they were calling the "pleasure dome". There was a mariachi band that was hilarious!
The TD/XSI team (my dept.) made a beer bong with "team XSI" on the side of it. On top of that we brought over our fooseball table from our building and continued to be the life of the party.

We went out friday night to see Kingdom of Heaven in the IMAX theatre. Was nothing special really just a bigger screen with curvature. It gave the film a little more depth. Overall the movie was no frills and boring. Gotta hand it to The Moving Picture Company for their great crowd sim stuff, along with the other studios involved in this picture they did a great job. I actually stayed to the end of the credits. Now that I am in the film industry, the credits really matter to me now, I stayed to find out who was involved in the creation process. I sure hope others will do the same when they see what I have been working on :)

I did a search for roommates and apartments today and decided on one only 3 blocks from the studio. I am going to get it on my own and then bring a John (potential roommate) in. Its a small 1 bed 1 bath, but I dont plan on being there much. I dont think John plans on being there much either, he only wants to stay during the week then drive home to LA on the weekends.

I am planning to go to San Diego Zoo tomorrow, gotta draw a bunch for Hunt's animal drawing class. Before this I have to go put my deposit down on the place and return the application. I then should be moved in monday during lunch break. I will have my bike and 2 bags, big move eh?

I thought I was going to have a ton of paper work today but it wasn't. Now not having all the appropriate identifing documents with me was. :) thanks mom for faxing my birth certificate.

I got to work on some shots today. just fixing up some shots and sending them back to artists.

I really wish i wouldn't have forgotten my usb cable for my camera. Cause I would've blogged about a picture or 2. I will have to wait until my junk get shipped from home.

So far riding the bike to work is probably not going to be permenant. I cannot see myself chugging up these hills everyday. So I think I will be hunting for a vehicle.

I am still on east coast time so I am getting tired at 7 pm here..

first steps..

well here I go!

I was sitting here reading a blog of someone elses I look up to in the entertainment industry.
Jason. Which got me thinking about doing one myself. This way I could communicate with people I know indirectly to let them know whats going on in my life.

Why would anyone care whats going on in my life? well I recently I got hired at Omation, an animation studio in SoCal, to work on a feature film. This would put me 3,000 miles away from friends I know from my college in South Florida and my family and friends in South Carolina. I hope to be able to put up regular posts with pictures about life in SoCal and what I can about my job at Omation.

This is my last night in South Florida and the start of my career in the entertainment industry. I have an 8 hr drive ahead of me tomorrow to get back to my family where I will proceed to unload all my personal belongings on them ;) I will only be taking what I need to San Clemente. This doesn't include my little Ranger. I will not be bringing my vehicle for a few reasons, but the biggest being fuel prices out there. $2.70.... I think I will try riding my bike for a bit, we will see how long I last before giving in to vehicular transportation.

whats going through my head now...

I like to move fast, not speeding, I like things to happen immediately. I know what your saying, "why is he in an industry that works with computers" right? It kinda went like this.. getting into high school felt like such a relief, the freedom! yeah right! I quickly got bored. Leaving high school was the next step I couldn't wait to take. College was going to be soo exciting. The freedom! the excitement! life on my own terms, doing what I wanted to do, ART! With approximately a year to go, I was looking for next way out. so here I am now taking the next step, this one is bigger than any step before. and I am as solid as a rock! I have known what I needed to do for a while now and I cannot wait to get started..
